Singapore has two land crossings into Malaysia. The Woodlands Causeway is the old, busy one: Woodlands Checkpoint on the Singapore side runs across the Causeway to Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) in Johor Bahru, and it feeds straight onto the BKE. The Tuas Second Link sits out west, connecting Tuas Checkpoint to the CIQ at Gelang Patah and feeding the AYE. Most people take Woodlands because it is closer to town, which is exactly why it jams.

How bad is the jam at the checkpoint now?

When is the Causeway worst?
Weekday mornings heading into Singapore, weekday evenings heading back into JB, Friday nights, and the eve of any public holiday. School holidays and long weekends turn a 20 minute crossing into two or three hours. Late night and mid-morning are your friends.
Do I need anything special to drive across?
Driving into Malaysia you need a registered VEP (Vehicle Entry Permit), a valid passport with at least six months left, and enough fuel to meet the three-quarter-tank rule leaving Singapore.
